Pre‑Opening — SHARK! Exhibition at the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale (May 2012)
The Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, in association with Nova Southeastern University’s Oceanographic Center, launched SHARK!, one of the most ambitious exhibitions ever dedicated to the intersection of art and marine science. Curated by renowned artist, author, and environmentalist Richard Ellis, the exhibition brought together more than 70 artists and over 400 shark species represented through paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, and film.
Two original paintings by Pascal Lecocq — Colosseus Watching and Corrida III — were selected for this major event, marking his first participation in an official U.S. museum exhibition. The show also featured works by Winslow Homer, Charles R. Knight, John Singleton Copley, Damien Hirst, and legendary underwater photographers such as David Doubilet, Rodney Fox, Ron & Valerie Taylor, and Douglas Seifert.
The pre‑opening events included conferences, book signings, family activities, and special receptions with Richard Ellis, Dr. Eugenie Clark (“The Shark Lady”), and participating artists. The museum shop also presented a selection of Pascal’s artworks and merchandise.
